Before leaving the Philippe-Chatrier court, Novak Djokovic took the time to put down his bag, greet the crowd with his hand on his heart, before hitting the clay. This for the last time? The Serb remained evasive about his future in a press conference after his elimination against Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals on Friday, June 6. "It was perhaps the last match of my career here," he said.
"Of all the matches I've played at Roland Garros, if this is the last, it was incredible in terms of atmosphere. I think I've never received so much support on this court in my career ," the world number 6 stressed. "I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but at this point in my career, I want to try to continue." Always driven by the Grand Slam tournaments, Novak Djokovic said he wanted to participate "for sure" in Wimbledon and the US Open this season, "but the rest is not so certain."
"Do I want to play more? Yes, but will I be able to in 12 months here? I don't know."

His opponent tonight hopes to see him play again at Roland Garros. "Tennis needs him. In the locker room, in training, his energy... He's precise in everything he does. He's an example for all of us. If this was his last match here, I'd be delighted to have been a part of it. But let's hope that's not the case," Jannik Sinner said at a press conference.

Facing Jannik Sinner on Friday evening, Novak Djokovic could only acknowledge his inferiority to the 38-year-old world number 1. "He was too strong for me tonight, " he admitted. " I had chances to take the third set, but I missed them. It's cool not to have taken a 6-0 because he had a few in the tournament. It was three close sets, but he didn't give me time to hit the shots I wanted. He made me defend, that's why he's number 1. I still had the impression that I made him work until the last shot. I did what I could, that's sport."
The Serb is now aiming for Wimbledon, which he sees as his "best opportunity to win another Grand Slam" , having already won seven times on the London grass.
